A False Sense of Self-Growth
Do I trust myself?
Or am I too good at deceiving?
Do I know my path?
Or am I lost?
Am I growing?
Or is it all a false sense?

I often ask myself these questions and to be honest, the more I try to find the answers, the more confusing the questions seem to me. I have never seen a person who doesn't want to grow. We all wish the best for us. But often we feel we are stuck at a certain time, at a certain space, at a certain pace and our growth stops. In these situations, we naturally tend to redefine our growth. This is simple biology, the fight or flight response of our brain. We know something is wrong, but we deny to accept it...in a false sense of self-growth. In this stuckness, we make our brain believe that we're getting better and that's it. We're lazy to take responsibilities of our own growth.
An essential part of growth is "taking actions." No matter in which sector we want to grow in, we need to act. And if our actions remain the same, our growth gets stuck. So, in order to grow, we must change our action. Again, human bodies are lazy, human soul is lazy too. But human brain is powerful. When we do not work for our growth, this powerful body part constantly gives us a false sense of betterment. For example, when I am stuck in a bad job with the worst boss to ever exist, my brain starts to show the good sides of it; the free snacks and that tour from office! It keeps me within the "false hope bubble" where I hope things will change soon, my boss will fall in love with my work soon and soon, I'll get a promotion. Years passe and that "soon" never comes. And then we simply realize, we weren't growing. We were struck. In the wrong ladder. All these years, we think we're getting better, but in reality, we're just staying where we were.
So, what's the solution? How can we defy this false sense of growth? How can we know ourselves better? How do we fight our manipulative brain?
The solution is to develop the sense of perspective. It's important to analyze perspectives. The more we analyze perspectives, the better we know ourselves from multiple dimensions. Not just our views on ourselves, but the outside ones. It's important to distinguish between growth and a false sense of growth. We need to know when this false sense of growth is keeping us stuck and when we are actually growing. We need to take the time to criticize ourselves and think about where we can better. We need to train our brain to observe, analyze and think; so that even if it wants to manipulate itself, it isn't manipulated.
It is important to remember that real growth takes time and action. We need to be patient with ourselves and keep our minds on the big picture; the end result of our growth journey. It's fine to take small steps and be proud of what we've accomplished, but we need to be mindful not to get into the trap of a false sense of growth, laid by our own manipulative brains.
